Otta Assistant
Otta is the built-in AI assistant. It reads and writes files, runs commands, produces documents and drives your browser.
Press Alt + Q to open a conversation, or search for "Solazah Otta".
Otta actually carries out what you ask and hands you the result.
What it can do
| Capability | What it means |
|---|---|
| Read and write files | View, create, edit, rename in bulk |
| Run commands | Terminal commands; long ones go to the background |
| Produce documents | Real Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files |
| Read text in images | Recognised locally; images are not uploaded |
| Drive your browser | Read pages, click, fill forms (extension required) |
| Search your own material | Notes, files, past records |
| Work on a schedule | Say it once; it runs on time in the background |
Installed plugins add their capabilities to its toolset.
Describing a task
State the goal, not the steps.
Turn these invoices into a monthly summary table
It breaks the work down itself.
Give file locations. Drag files into the conversation, or say which folder.
State constraints.
Only change the file names, leave the contents alone
Attaching things
- Drag in files — to have it work on specific files
- Paste an image — to read its text or have it described
- Paste long text — as context, without cluttering the message
Actions that need confirmation
Deleting files, sending mail, submitting forms and paying stop and ask first.
You can interrupt at any point during a conversation; whatever is running aborts.
Background tasks
Long jobs move to the background automatically and hand control straight back.
Compress these three hundred images
Carry on with something else, or close the window. For progress:
How is that task going?
See Scheduled & Background Tasks.
Switching models
Use the selector at the top of the conversation window. See Models & API Keys.
Troubleshooting
It says it cannot see my file
The file is outside the workspace. Move it in, or give an absolute path.
It lacks a capability
The plugin is not installed. Install it from the marketplace, or add an MCP server. New capabilities take effect from the next turn.
Answers are inaccurate or drift off
Use a more capable model for complex work — it has to plan the steps itself, and weaker models skip things.
It keeps asking the same thing
Put the constraint into memory: "Remember: this project always uses pnpm".
